I’m a proud papa to 9 itty bitty baby tomato plants, the only sprouters of 36 tomato seeds that I sowed indoors in January.
That’s not a bad sowed-to-sprouted ratio for tomato plants honestly. Maybe if I had a heated mat I could have germinated more- but I don’t so I’m happy with what I got.
Of course the first step is to pinch off any flowers the plant has developed at this size- because it can’t develop fruit like this and will only get weaker.
Then it’s just a matter of putting your ‘maters in the right sized pot with some good soil and setting them out in the sun. I also used some sure-start to give these guys a little help with their roots.
Luckily for the children here it’s pretty sunny today!
It will of course rain this weekend, but I have just sort of resigned myself to being a hominid in the hands of an angry god.
I did give these guys a dose of good liquid fertilizer though- and I’m gonna keep doing that throughout the month. They need to focus on growing those leaves and not start putting out flowers. If these guys all make it I’m gonna have some space issues- but that’s a bridge I’ll cross when I come to it.
I was just going to suggest liquid fertilizer. The foliage is a bit tired.
