Was a summer in San Francisco. Mark Twain said that right?
Well no. According to Quote investigator Mark Twain may have said this quote about Paris in a letter to a friend- but soon afterwards the quote was misquoted as about Duluth! It got attributed to San Francisco later probably because of Twain’s long association with the city of my birth. It’s one of those many misquotes that litters the internet- though this one predates the internet by a lot.
As much as I’m cursing San Francisco’s current cold snap- I thought I should set the record straight, after referencing it last post.
